Valence (mood), dancebility and energy are slightly underperforming. So basically we’re trying to answer if the chart on Sunday sounds different compared to the rest of the week.Īs visualized below we can conclude that acousticness and instrumentalness are overperforming compared to the other days. We can also use these to determine if there’s any difference between the tracks being featured in the charts on Sunday and the rest of the week. In my previous post on Eurovision I described the acoustic variables that Spotify assigns to tracks. Via Spot on Track I managed to get the tracklist of Spotify’s Easy on Sunday playlist for multiple Sundays, ranging from January until May.Also one of Spotify’s API functionalities. In order to see if there’s a difference in sound I’ve also retrieved the acoustic variables of all chart featured tracks. To get a more accurate picture of the difference between the weekdays I had to retrieve the related genres of all chart featured artists. This has been done via a web scraping method. I’ve collected all daily Spotify charts from The Netherlands, ranging from January 5th to May 17th.Something that surfaced the idea to further investigate the difference between Spotify’s Top 200 chart on Sunday and the rest of the week. From experience I’ve noticed that when you’re looking at the charts on Monday (showing the top streamed tracks from Sunday) you can detect some slight differences compared to the rest of the week. I wondered though if I was accompanied with a lot of other Dutch Spotify users, assuming it’s not just me. It’s a day where you just want to do things at a slower pace, BPM included. Looking at my own listening behavior I often acknowledge that I tend to have different preferences on Sundays compared to the rest of the week.
